Abstract (EN)

Objective:The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of emotion regulation training on emotion regulation and mindfulness skills of young athletes. The sub-purpose is; to examine the possible changes in athletes' trait anxiety, perceived performance levels and IZOF emotional state profiles. MatherialandMethods: For thispurpose, athletes (n=16; meanage = 15.18 ± 0.83) were divided into the experimental and control groups and the experimental group received 8 weeks of emotion regulation training. Before and after training, Emotion Regulation Scale for Adolescents (ERS), Comprehensive Inventory of Mindfulness Experiences - Adolescents, The Sport Anxiety Scale-2, Borg CR-10 Scale and IZOF Emotional State Profile Test was applied. Results: Scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than control group in some subscales of the emotional regulation and mindfulness tests (p <0.05). As predicted, the tarit anxiety scores of the experimental group decreased and the perceived performance scores were increased significantly after the training. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was found that emotion regulation training was effective in accepting the emotional situations experienced by young athletes as they were and reducing the anxiety by coping them. However, it is recommended to devote more time to homeworks and rehearsals for mindfulness and cognitive change in thetraining.
