The relationship between emotional intelligence and stress management: A research on teachers working in public and private schools in Kütahya province

Even if every person works within their own goals, they may ancounter negative situations in the ordinary course of life. This situation triggers their feelings of stress and inadequacy. People‟s ability to express their emotions easily and understand the source of the problems they encounter in their daily lives brings them closer to success. In this context, the importance of emotional intelligence emerges as an important phenomenon that concerns society as well as the individual. The aim of the research is to reveal how educators measure their emotional intelligence and use stress management methods depending on the stress they encounter in their social and business lives. For this purpose, it includes primary school teachers working in Kütahya province. Within the scope of the research, based on the data of the Kütahya Provincial Directorate of National Education, 250 teachers were reached out of a total of 1320 primary school teachers in Kütahya city center between January and May 2023. As a result of the research, it was determined that teachers‟ emotional intelligence level was high, their perception of interpersonel dimensions was high, and their perception of coping with stress was at amedium level. In addition, it is seen that as the emotional intelligence of the teachers included in the research increases, the use of avoidance approaches decreases.
