Abstract (EN)

In this study, comparison of the children with depressive parents and the children with non depressive parents are analyzed in terms of behavioral difficulties. Furthermore, the behavioral difficulties of the children with depressive parents are examined. Behavioral difficulties and their relationship with the levels of depression in parents are evaluated. Additionally, the effects of parental depression on children's social development are analyzed. The sample of this research is 30 children between 24-73 months who are taught at a randomly chosen morning kinder garden and children's club within Istanbul. Additional data about these children and their parents is collected from the teachers. Depression, attitude of parents, the effects of depressed parents on their children, the children's social development, the behavioral difficulties of children with depressed families and the attitude problems that their teachers realize about these children are evaluated. Therefore a Hamilton Depression rating scale is used for parents along with a Vineland Adaptive behavioral scale, that is used for children which helps to determine their attitude problems .Also a demographic form is applied to acquire personal information about the children and their parents. According to the research results, it is determined that social adaptation levels of girls are relatively higher than the boys. Children who were born in 2009 were socially more non-adaptive than the other children. However, the research findings determine that there is no impact of parental depression on the child's social development.
