Abstract (EN)
Historical places are characterized as symbols of cities that have been shaped by history or signs. Historical places reflect the culture of the city with their architectural features, their social values, and the environment in which the place is located. Historical site environments come to the fore with many different usage potentials such as belief, recreation, tourism, according to the cultural and social structures of societies. When the historical place environments are taken into consideration, it gives information about both the architectural work and the building blocks of the society. For example, it is possible to see the plane tree, which represents the lineage and mightiness during the Ottoman Empire, around many of the historical places that witnessed the period. From this point of view, it is one of the study areas of landscape architecture on the basis of the floristic diversity of historical site environments and open and green space systems. Historical places create both an ecological and visual effect with the vegetation around them. The woody and herbaceous vegetation of a historical place is effective in increasing or decreasing the physical and intellectual value of the place. The main purpose of this study is to examine some historical places and their environments in Edirne province, which is at the center of many important events in the historical scene, in terms of floristics, to make ecological and visual evaluations of these environments with their plant diversity, and to present different planting examples if necessary as a result of these evaluations. For this purpose, the historic place circles are selected of the Sultan II. Bayezid Complex, Eski Mosque, Hıdırlık Bastion, Historical Karaağaç Train Station, Selimiye Mosque Complex ve Üç Şerefeli (Burmalı) Mosque is high in Edirne province's high tourism potential. In these areas, on-site observation and handheld GPS (Global Positioning Systems) coordinates of the existing plants were processed on the substrates and statistical evaluations were carried out to determine the diversity. Accordingly, the highest plant diversity was found in the Historical Karaağaç Train Station, the lowest diversity was in the Hıdırlık Bastion.
