The image of London in the travelogues of Edmondo De Amicis and Ahmet İhsan Tokgöz

During the 19th century travels have gained impetus due to technical innovation.In those years, along with the travels to the East, a new type of travel became popular. These were the trips that were undertaken by travellers, writers and journalists of the countries outside of Europe or from European Countries that were not yet Westernized who were interested in the achievements of industrialization. The true symbol of those developments was London at that time. In this city that was the heat of a commercially powerful empire which was ruling over several colonies the Italian and Ottoman travellers had the opportunities to observe not only the miracles created through the industrialist action of the world but also its negative effects.Among the travelogues that reflect the image of London best, were Edmondo De Amicis's Ricordi di Londra and Ahmet İhsan Tokgöz's Avrupa da Ne Gördüm?. These works illustrate a lot of common aspects from the point of view of their authors? impressions and descriptions of the city.This work aims to compare these two books and elaborate on their similarities and contrast.
