Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the effectiveness of Quality Management Systems (QMS) in Turkish construction industry is investigated. Firstly, a literature was conducted about historical perspective and principles of QMS and major characteristics of construction industry. Then, a questionnaire was distributed to a sample of construction firms that have or have not passed through QMS in order to investigate the current situation of these systems in Turkish construction industry. The questionnaire results were evaluated by using cross tabulation method in the most common statistical software "SPSS 10.0 for Windows". By appraising some findings from SPSS outputs, the quality performance of Turkish Construction industry is determined and some hypothesis suggestions about the use of QMS principles are put forward. Lastly, a quality measurement matrix model is developed as a way to measure effectiveness of QMS and illustrated in a case study applied on Turkish construction firms operating these systems. Survey results and some recommendations are given for further researches. Keywords: Quality, Quality Management Systems (QMS), Construction Industry, Effectiveness IV
