Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, Ibn al-Arabī's critiques of theologians and philosophers in the context of individuals; of theological and philosophical schools in the context of groups; and of theology and philosophy in the context of disciplines are discussed from an ontological and epistemological perspective. The work aims to determine the real position of Ibn al-Arabī's thought as a sūfī in the context of his criticism between theology and philosophy or between theologians and philosophers. The main source of the study is Ibn al-Arabī's vast corpus, al-Futūhāt al-Makkiyyah. Ibn al-Arabī's criticism in the aforementioned work are presented and evaluated by taking into account important theological and philosophical texts. In this direction, the ideas belonging to these three channels of Islamic thought (sūfism, theology, and philosophy) are compared. As a result of the study, it can be said that Ibn al-Arabī's unique system of thought, which distinguishes him from the disciplines of theology and philosophy in the ontological and epistemological contexts, has become clear. In the field of ontology, with his views on theoretical physics and metaphysics, he developed a unique conception of the universe and an understanding of occasionalism; in the field of epistemology, it can be said that he had a unique sensualist/empiricist attitude and exhibited an occasionalist attitude in knowledge.
