Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the concept and applications of the circular economy, evaluating its impacts on sustainable development. Unlike the traditional linear economy model, the circular economy promotes efficient resource use, minimizes waste generation, and extends the lifecycle of products. This thesis addresses the fundamental principles, historical background, and theoretical framework of the circular economy, along with various implementation examples from both global and Turkish contexts. As part of the research, the awareness and implementation levels of circular economy practices in manufacturing enterprises in the province of Elazığ were evaluated. Surveys and interviews were employed to reveal the current state of enterprises, as well as the challenges and opportunities associated with circular economy practices. The findings demonstrate that circular economy applications provide both environmental and economic benefits. Specifically, improvements in waste management, the expansion of recycling processes, and increased resource efficiency positively impact the competitive strength of businesses. In conclusion, this study presents a comprehensive analysis of the feasibility of implementing the circular economy model at a regional level and offers policy recommendations for enhancing circular economy practices in enterprises within the province of Elazığ. The importance of strategic steps for adopting a sustainable economic model is emphasized in this context.
