Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, energy and exergy analysis of inter-city bus air conditioning (ICBAC) system are performed using different refrigerants and air mixing ratios (MRs). Adana province of Turkey was chosen as the study region. Firstly, a coach bus, which is used for inter-city passenger transportation in USA, with a passenger capacity of 56 persons was selected. Hourly Analysis Program (HAP) was used to determine the hourly cooling load capacity of the selected inter-city bus model. In cooling load calculation of the inter-city bus, climate data such as dry bulb temperature, wet bulb temperature and solar radiation of the Adana province were used. Commonly used refrigerants R404A, R410A, R502, R507, R22, R290, R134a, R500 and R600a were selected for use in the ICBAC system. Obtained Coefficient of Performance (COP), exergy efficiency and exergy destruction values of ICBAC system and its components for July were evaluated. Results reveals that the performance of the ICBAC system was substantially affected from refrigerants and MRs, and R600a has the minimum total exergy destruction among all studied refrigerants. Minimum total exergy destruction value of R600a was obtained as 3.88 kW for MR=0.05, and maximum total exergy destruction value was calculated as 7.02 kW for MR=0.5.
