Abstract (EN)

In recent years, the world?s energy needs is increasing rapidly. Numbers of established power plants are rising day by day to satisfy this energy needs. Most of these large and medium capacity power plants are equipped with synchronous generators. Most of synchronous generators are designed as a cylindrical rotor type for these power plants. These large powered machines are important part of power systems and networks. This study aims to present basic operation principles of a cylindrical rotor synchronous generators, relation between prime movers and power systems, how to specify a synchronous generator for a fossil fuel power plant.Non-silent pole synchronous generator?s steady state conditions are considered and necessary equations are put forth. For simple and combined cycle power plants, gas and steam turbine generator selection is elaborated. For compliance between generator and power system , important items are mentioned for generator step-up transformer selection and medium voltage system design.
