Abstract (EN)

The aims of this study are to determine the problems of disabled people in terms of international standards in open and green areas (parks, terraces, picnic areas, avenues, streets, roads, shopping centres, etc) of Adana where the city is represented and to form applicable designs to represent practices for these problems in terms of national and international examples. This study has three main parts.In first part the studies about the definition of disabled people, the causes and classification of disability, the statistics of disability people in our country and in the world, the solutions for physical disabled people in USA, EU and in our country were searched.In second part the current status of our study area was defined in terms of international standardsIn the third section, includes the results and suggestions of the study, problems were determined and solutions were constituded. Acording to the results, Bülent Angın - 100. Yıl Avenue (58 %), Turgut Özal Avenue (40 %) were found partially suitable for physical disabled, however Mustafa Kemal Paşa Avenue (40%) is not suitable for disabled. 74.street (44 %) and 1234. streets are not suitable for physical disabled. DSI picnic area (68 %), Adnan Menderes picnic area (64 %) , Central Park (43 %) and Atatürk Park (49 %) %) were found partially suitable for physical disabled. Adana city has lots of problems for physically disabled people. In this frame its needed to reconstruction of the areas which have problems and municipalities have to reconcider on this more carefully.
