Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT In this thesis, the geology of Torbalı and its surrounding was explained. Locations and states of which presently working mosaic, stone, marble quarries and antique marble quarries are presented. İnitaly, 1/5000 scaled detailed engineering geological map of area has been prepared. Ancient and present marble quarries have been investigated in detail. Investigations were based on colour, structure, mineralogy, chemical and physico-mechanical properties. The reasons why some limestone beds make good quality marble source while the others do not, are given based on their mineralogical, chemical, physico-mechanical properties and obtainable block sizes.
