Abstract (EN)

Oxidative injury has been implicated in a wide variety of regenerative processessuch as wound healing. Effective wound healing requires a highly organizedperiod of events that comprise inflamation, re-epithelization, proliferation, matrix deposition, angiogenesis and wound contraction. Various growth factorssuch as EGF play significant roles during the process of wound healing. Thereare limited numbers of studies on effects of exogenous EGF implantation onoxidative events of wounded oral mucosa. That?s why we planned to investigatethe effects of oral-submucosal implanted EGF on the oxidative stress of oralsubmucosal wound strips. We used New Zeland albino rabbits (male, n=37, 2,5 ± 0,4 kg ). After sub-mucosal incisions were made the rabbits were divided into two equal groups: 1-Untreated wounds 2- EGF implanted wounds. The rabbits were killed by excessst th thof sodium penthobarbitale anesthesia on the 1 ,3 and 5 days ofpostwounding. The wound strips were excised immediately. The levels ofthiobarbituric acid substances (TBARS) which is the last production of lipidperoxidation; glutathione (GSH) and ascorbic acid (AA) which are animportant antioxidants and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity which is one ofenzymes considered to especially in oxygen-mediated host defence mechanisms, measured by spectrophotometrically. Results were compared by AnovaVariance Analysis and Mann Whitney U test.As a result, while TBARS levels of oral wound strips were decreased withexogenous EGF treatment compared to control, MPO activities were increased. In addition, GSH and AA levels of oral wound strips were not change during allof oral wound healing phases in both groups.
