Abstract (EN)
DNA methylation is one of the major epigenetic modifications affecting the regulation of gene expression. Papaver somniferum L. it is an important medicinal plant. Latex contains opium, a rich source of pharmaceutical benzylisoquinoline alkaloid (BIA). Here, methylation-sensitive amplification polymorphism (MSAP) profiling of epigenetic arrangements on genes and gene regions involved in tebain biosynthesis pathway was applied to compare DNA methylation levels among opium poppy varieties using MSAP molecular markers. In this context, the effects of methylation in epigenetic arrangements in the tebain pathway were investigated for the first time. MSAP profile, Papaver somniferum L. with different BIA content it reflected the different methylation state between varieties.
