A sociological study on divorced individuals in Erbil

The institution of the family, one of the most fundamental building blocks of society, is closely related not only to marriage but also to the phenomenon of divorce. Divorce is an important social issue that needs to be emphasized today, because when the roots of many personal and social problems are examined, the phenomenon of divorce is often encountered. For this reason, divorce is a multifaceted issue that needs to be addressed not only as a legal process but also with its sociological dimensions. The causes and consequences of divorce have an important place in the analysis of family structure and social dynamics. In this context, this study aims to analyze the experiences of divorced individuals living in the city of Erbil regarding the divorce process and its aftermath from a sociological perspective. On the other hand, the study examines what kind of a social view divorce has in the city of Erbil. In this study, which was designed with quantitative research method, male and female individuals living in Erbil and officially divorced within the last five years were determined as the target group. The sample of the study consists of 100 divorced individuals residing in Erbil. As a result, among the reasons for divorce in Erbil; "economic reasons", "use of social media", "interference of relatives in the marriage", "verbal/physical violence", 'incompatibility', "lack of children" and "bad habits" are listed respectively.
