Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT Master's Thesis USE OF EREGLI IRON AND STEEL FACTORY SLAG IN THE ASPHALT CONCRETE Ekrem Tolga SOMUNKIRÂN FIRAT UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOOL OF SCİENCE AND TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING 2005 At this thesis, use of steal making slag emerged as a waste product at the iron and steel manufacturing had been sougth instead of aggregate used at the hot bituminous mixture. Iron and steel slag which is not benefit from economically because of storing inactive at the stock areas, also making environmental pollution, had been aimed to evaluate using at the asphalt concrete. Steel making slag emerging approximately 300.000-350.000 tones per year at Erdemir, had been studied characterization to determine whether having enough characteristic using as a asphalt aggregate at the highways. Marshall stability and indirect tensile testing had been made at the Marshall briquettes which are preparing Type II gradation average limits giving for Binder layer from technical certification of General Directorate of Highways, the same tests were repeated with the limestone material from quarry Taskisigi, Adapazarı, and data had been compared. In conclusion, the effect of steel making slag had been examined to the optimum bitumen rate and other physical characteristic of plating and had been concluded to using slag as a aggregate was suitable. Key Words: Asphalt Concreteu, Steal Slag, Agregate, Marshall Stability, Gradation, Bitumen vrr
