The relationship between adolescents' level of participation in sports activities and psychosocial development

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the psychosocial development of sports activities in adolescents, to determine whether there is a difference in terms of demographic information and to offer solutions. The universe of the study consists of adolescent individuals between the ages of 12-18, studying in secondary schools and high schools, studying in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education throughout the province of Balıkesir. In our research, 800 people were reached, as a result of the analysis, after missing and extreme data were removed, the questionnaires of 772 people were examined. In this study, two scale forms as data collection tool; Erikson's Psychosocial Developmental Stages Scale, Sports Activities Orientation Scale and demographic information form developed by the researcher were used. It was determined that there was a positive and significant relationship between the scale of orientation to sports activities and Erikson psychosocial development scale, in the sub-dimensions of autonomy, entrepreneurship, industriousness and identity, and between Erikson psychosocial development and the sub-dimensions of socialization, emotion-seeking and information seeking, which are the sub-dimensions of SAOS. Significant differences were found in the total score of SAOS, class and family income variables, and in the total score of EPSI, age, gender, and class variables. According to the research findings, increasing the level of participation in sports activities contributes positively to psychosocial development.
