Abstract (EN)

Obesity, defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation, is a health condition that causes various health risks. As a result of the rapid increase in the prevalence of obesity worldwide since the 1900s, WHO has recognized obesity as a universal epidemic. Obesity has many physiological and psychological effects on the body. It also increases the risk of diabetes along with many diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal system diseases, and cancer types. Diabetes is a chronic disease that causes many health problems such as obesity and occurs as a result of not producing enough insulin in the body or not being able to use the insulin produced effectively. Obesity and diabetes also have significant effects on body biochemistry and may cause differences in the functioning of biochemical pathways. It is known that neuropeptide galanin and polyamine putrescine, which are biomolecules that can be synthesized in the body, have many important functions in the body, especially in energy metabolism. Studies have also been conducted showing that these biomolecules are also associated with obesity and diabetes. In this study, we aimed to compare serum putrescine and galanin levels in obese, diabetic obese and healthy groups and to investigate the relationship between them and routine biochemical parameters. In the study, serum putrescine and galanin levels were measured by ELISA method in 25 obese, 25 obese people diagnosed with diabetes and 25 healthy control groups. As a result of the study, serum putrescine levels were found to be higher in the obese and diabetic obese groups compared to the control group. A significant difference was found when serum galanin levels were compared for the obese, obese with diabetes and control groups, but no significant result was found when the groups were compared among themselves. As a result, it was concluded that putrescine and galanin parameters may be related to the development of obesity and type 2 diabetes. More studies are needed on this subject to examine this relationship in more detail and to develop a method that can contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of obesity in the future.
