Abstract (EN)
Introduction: Hypoperfusion, hypoxia and ischemia occurs in circulation as a result of anemia. All of these situations lead to oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction in the organism. In our study it aimed to investigate the oxidant-antioxidant balance and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) levels, in patients that have symptomatic anemia in need of transfusion and the patients made erythrocyte suspension (ES) transfusion without other diseases that capable of oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction. Materials & Methods: 50 patients who need (ES) transfusion followed in our clinic between the dates 2014-2015 (F / M: 25/25) were included in this study. Total Antioxidant Status (TAS), Total Oxidant Status (TOS) and ADMA levels were studied in the biochemistry laboratory on venous blood samples recieved from the patients after diagnoses and 24 hours after ES transfusions. Patiens' results were evaluated, measured before and after ES transfusion. Results: The mean age of the patients included in the study was (65,68±14,38). When before and after ES transfusion values of cases were compared a significant difference was detected between TAS values, (TAS1: 1,08±0,17; TAS2: 1,14±0,17; p‹0,001). Likewise a significant difference was detected between TOS values, (TOS1: 58,19±38,38; TOS2: 69,58±44,23; p‹0,01). But there wasn't a significant difference between ADMA values, (ADMA1: 1,18±0,82; ADMA2: 1,19±0,83; p: 0,81). When a significant difference were detected between TAS and TOS values of cases before and after ES transfusion, but in ADMA levels significant changes not observed. We found that the increased number of given ES increases the antioxidant capacity(p‹0,05) Conclusion: We determined that, as a result of tissue hypoxia created by anemia endothelial dysfunction develops, oxidant capacity increases by providing reperfusion but also increases the antioxidant capacity, increased number of ES increases the antioxidant capacity. Also we identified hypoxia-induced endothelial dysfunction which continue although there is a blood flow. Keywords: ES transfusion, TAS, TOS, ADMA.
