Abstract (EN)
In today's society the sanctity of marriage is under obvious change effected by each member changing perception of family unity. This fact is obvious by the increase of divorce cases compared to decrease in legal marriages. It is important to scientifically research the reasons surrounding the rapid increase of divorce applications, which now is also threatening the unity of our social wellbeing. The length of marriage and the decision of divorce differs depending on gender identity. Scientific research indicates, that most cases were conducted by focusing on the different disparities woman and children suffered during the proceedings first. Research also shows that the superiority of male gender within the society, in terms of hierarchy, must be also evaluated to determine the differences and views of different genders in terms of divorce process. The field study was conducted in the City of Antalya, which has one of the highest divorce statistics in the Country. The statistical data was obtained from the family court and the sample was chosen from 40 divorce cases, whom were initiated by masculinity. Then face to face interviews were conducted to obtain results. The interview questions were targeted more specifically regarding the negative experiences the masculinity endured during the divorce process. The reason of these experiences was questioned as well as the emotional stress the situation created on each subject. In conclusion, the experiences were identified as social, physiological, economic and legal. It was observed that males are affected the same way as the female counterparts during these proceedings. However, it was also determined that each gender was affected based on their identity within the society. The male subjects indicated that their issues are based on their needs not being met as a man, lack of communication between their spouses and lack of receptiveness. In the meaning of that each gender has their own expectations in the relationship that defines who they are. Most of the time the male gender expressed their feelings as sad, depressed and lonely during the divorce proceedings. They also indicated that the society looks at the male gender differently when it comes to decision of terminating the marriage. The society appears to be more judgmental towards the males than females. Keywords: Gender, masculinity, family, marriage, divorce,
