The production and transmission of mathematical sciences in the early modern Ottoman Empire (1500-1700)

This thesis focuses on the ways in which mathematical sciences were produced and transmitted in the Early Modern Ottoman Empire. In which spaces were the mathematical sciences produced? Which social relations were instrumental in the circulation of the sciences? What are the other structural factors that played a role in the production and circulation of mathematical sciences? Answers to these and similar questions will be sought. In addition, the issue will be analysed in a more comprehensive manner, focusing on the approaches of historiography in the Early Modern period. The thesis aims to emphasise the need for a more comprehensive approach to the history of Ottoman science and the need to diversify the factors that makes contribution to the history of science. Rather than claiming to answer every question about the Ottoman science and the historiography of science, the thesis aims to problematise some of the issues related to the Ottoman science and the historiography of science.
