Abstract (EN)

Turkey, which has a hilly and mountainous topography, is a country that frequently faces a soil erosion and floods. The studies implemented for erosion and flood control have been carried out by the forestry organization since the 1950s. However, a limited number of studies have been conducted on the extent to which these studies have been successful or not. The subject of this thesis is Kanlıçay Basin, which is one of the micro-basins of Çoruh River basin. Kanlıçay Basin was selected as the study area due to a mountainous and hilly terrain, frequent floods leading to loss of life and property in the region, very severe erosion and soil losses are occurrences and many high-cost afforestation and erosion control projects were carried out by forestry organizations. Within the scope of this thesis, sample projects representing the basin were selected and the erosion and flood control studies conducted in the basin were evaluated with these projects. Successful or failure parts of the studies were identified and revealed. After selected project sites were visited on-site, their status of success and methods used were presented in detail. In conclusion, the success rate of slope stabilization activities in the basin was 81.34% and gully stabilization activities was determined as 87.78%.
