The examination of hadiths which are relevant to the grave life in accordance with Es-SuyÛti`s work which is named Serhu`s-SudÛr bi Şerhi Hali`l-Mevta ve`l-Kubur

The life after death has been one of the important curiosity and discussing subjectsof humanity throughout the history. In this work, the grave life which is the first periodafter death according to Islam, was examined in accordance with es-Suyûtû?s workwhich was named ?Şerhu?s-Sudûr?. After giving information about es-Suyûtû and hiswork briefly, the subjects and the narrations which are related to the grave life wereexamined in the context of this work. So, on the one hand while the belief of the gravelife in Islam is being explained, and on the other hand the weak and false narrationswhich caused a lot of wrong beliefs and superstitions were pointed out.In our work, firstly, the grave and the isthmus concepts were expressed and theinformation about the grave life in the previous religions and cultures before Islam isstated. By this way, the historical and the conceptual base of the subject was described.Also, the narrations which the general characteristics about the grave are expressedin were examined and the ideas which were effective on the formation of thewidespread beliefs were stated. Besides this, the Quranic verses and the hadiths whichare related to the grave interrogation and the grave torment were studied. Also byexpressing the different opinions of the scholars on the nature of the grave life, it isconcluded that the good and bad situations which human meet in the grave are thereflections of his actions in the world.In this study, it was also indicated that the comprehension of Hadith Schoolwhich includes weak and fabricated narrations on the subject of a belief that mustdepend on trustworthy knowledge and evidence, caused a lot of negativities.Key Words: Isthmus, Suyûtû, Death, Hadith, Grave Torment, Hereafter, Spirit.
