Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to examine linguistic devices that are expressing event modality in a historical era of Turkish language called Old Anatolian Turkish between XIII. – XV. century and contribute to the existing classification attempts with obtained new data. Study sample contains thirteen manuscripts from said era. We have inspected those manuscripts considering the classification attempt in Palmer 2001 with a semantic-pragmatic approach. Study contains four sections. First section is a mere introduction to the study including the topic, scope, study sample, goals and the methodology. Second section introduces basic notions of modality including but not limited to previous definitions and classification attempts. Third section includes semantic-pragmatic analysis and suggested theoretical framework of deontic modality in Old Anatolian Turkish with sub-categories as command modality, request modality, begging modality, obligative modality and symbouletic modality in addition to analysis of linguistic devices to express such modal categories. Forth section includes semantic-pragmatic analysis and suggested framework of dynamic modality in Old Anatolian Turkish with sub-categories as volitive, voluntative and abilitive modalities in addition to analysis of linguistic devices to express such modal categories.
