Revalorisation of the old buildings with new function

Nowadays,the variations in the functions loaded onto the places we live in are frequently puton the agenda due to the requirements which continuously change and develop by social andcultural effects. As a result of the wishes of this change, sometimes the existing buildings aredemolished, then new buildings are constructed by taking the new functions into theconsideration, and in some cases especially in the buildings which havehistorical,architectural and environmental importances, there may be changes in the functions.The new functions are not appropriate and the values, meanings and environmentalcontributions are annihilated without considering the meanings, memoirs, architectural values,and the contributions to the environment of a building. .In the scope of this thesis, whenfaced with this kind of function variations in order to protect the meant values, the researchesto be made and the ways to be followed are described in a systematically manner. The thesisis formed in the directions of the parts as follows:In Chapter 1, the goal, the scope and the method of the thesis which is define ?Revalorisationof the old buildings with new functions? is explained.In Chapter 2, old function-new function-revalorisation subjects are dealed, the subtitles aredefined and in the scope of this topic, the subtitles of architectural revalorisation phases andthe history of refunctioning are inspected.In Chapter 3, protection concept, protection methods, how the protection and revalorisation isdealed in procedures in historical processes and the protection researches about theconstructions, which are not active, are considered.In Chapter 4, in the revalorisation process, the change in the function of the old buildings, thediscussion of the new function and the selection of the new appropriate function are inspected.In Chapter 5, the phases during the revalorisation processes are considered.In Chapter 6, the design concepts in the revalorisation processes are discussed.In Chapter 7, the phases which start with the function selection after revalorisation studies areinspected.In Chapter 8, many implementations from Turkey and different places of the Europe areinspected, and how the architectural design concept is implemented in these buildings, isresearched.Keywords: Old building concept, new function concept, revalorisation concept
