Evaluation of depression conditions in individuals aged 18 andover applying to eskisehir osmangazi university family medicine polyclinic

Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by depressed mood, loss of enjoyment or interest in daily activities over a long period of time. There are approximately 280 million people with depression worldwide. The prevalence is increasing. Our study is a cross-sectional study in which 292 individuals aged 18 years and older who applied to the family medicine outpatient clinic between 01.06.2023-30.11.2023 were asked to complete a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of sociodemographic characteristics and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). While 15.8% of the participants had symptoms of depression, 84.2% had no symptoms of depression. In the comparison made according to the BDI score, the rate of depression symptoms was statistically significant in unmarried individuals, individuals living in extended families, unemployed individuals, individuals with alcohol consumption, individuals with depression and anxiety disorders, individuals who were in the region during the earthquake or who had relatives in the region or who lost relatives. In conclusion, it was concluded that it is important in the early diagnosis and treatment of depression to screen everyone who applies to primary health care services, especially those at risk, for depression, to treat individuals with depressive symptoms, and to refer them to a psychiatrist when necessary.
