The evaluation of application level of constructivist approach for Turkish lessons in the secondary school (Sample of Zonguldak city)

The aim of this research is to evaluate whether or not teachers having Turkish classes at the secondary schools which place in Zonguldak city centre and Kozlu county town adopt process evaluation for data construction, exhibit proper behaviours for constructivist process while having activities done, and exhibit teacher roles adopting constructivist learning approach while trying to provide practice situations of method and techniques that are prepared in accordance with constructivism and four main language skills. In accordance with the research, a thirty eight point structured teacher observation form and thirty nine-question semi-structured interview forms, which were prepared by Metin Öztürk, were utilized. It was received permission from Metin Öztürk for usage these forms. Also, forms were introduced by taking three expert opinions. Socio-cultural structure of Zonguldak had an effect on determining the schools for lesson observation. Features like seniority, age, gender, and educational background were taken into consideration for choosing the teachers. It was also recevied approval from Zonguldak Governship after taking necessary permissions from teachers and school directors. Eighty hours lesson observation was performed as observing ten hours lesson of eight teachers. Datas obtaining in consequence of interviews with teachers personally and lesson observations were interpreted with respect to professional seniority, educational background, gender variables. In consequnces of observation and interviews, it was obtained the results that process evaluation methods are not applied enough, the behaviours consonant with constructivist process are partially exhibited while having activites performed, methods and techniques being prepared in accordance with constructivism are partially managed, constructivist teacher roles are also partially exhibited.
