Evaluation the effect of glycation level on renal function complications in Kirkuk city, Iraq

In this study, the oxidative stress in the plasma of renal failure patients was investigated by measuring the alterations of plasma proteins including free amine group, thiol, and carbonyl. Also, the glycation of plasma protein was investigate in renal failure patients and the role of oxidative stress in increasing glycated protein level was explorered. The study was included 120 subject, 80 of which were diagnosed with renal failure disease while the other 40 were healthy people used as control for the study. The results have shown that renal failure people were exhibited a significant (P<0.05) reduced levels of total protein and albumin compared to healthy people, while the level of globulin was elevated. Free amine group level was non-significantly (P>0.05) changed in renal failure patients compared to control. The level of reduced thiol groups (-SH) was significantly (P<0.05) reduced in renal failure patients compared to control, which was indicated a reduced antioxidnat capacity. On the other hand, the level of carbonyl was elevated in the plasma proteins of renal failure patients, which was indicated an elevated oxidative stress. Glycated plasma protiens were elevated in the plasma of renal failure patients. The study was concluded that oxidative stress may take a part in increasing the glycation process even in non-diabetic patients.
