Abstract (EN)

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder affecting 10–15 % of women in reproductive age. The objective was to evaluate the effect of irisin and Oxyntomodulin (OXM) in the patient with PCOS with focusing on etiology of obese and age category. This study involved, forty eight females with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) characterized by ultrasound imaging with polycystic ovarian morphology and each one with ovulatory dysfunction and hyperandrogenism with different age groups were matched with forty healthy females (as a Controls group), The following main parameters were measured: Fasting serum levels ,total Cholesterol, , triglyceride, high density lipoprotein), glycatedhaemoglobin (HbA1c%), Irisin, Oxyntomodulin (OXM). The median serum Irisin were significantly higher among PCOS the 95% CI = (55.64, 65.45, P=0.001) ng/ml compared to healthy controls 95% CI (18.47, 26.86 P=0.001) ng/m. The median serum Oxynatomodulin (Oxm) in PCOS were significantly lower 95% CI = (2.233, 3.692, P=0.001) ng/ml when compared to the controls 95% CI = (10.958, 12.642, P=0.001) ng/ml. Fasting serum levels, total Cholesterol, , triglyceride, high density lipoprotein), glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c%) were being higher when compared to controls groups. Data of the present study showed that serum Irisin was significantly higher among PCOS. Irisin enhances glucose absorption in skeletal muscles, enhances hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism, and exerts a beneficial impact on hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia resulting from obesity and metabolic syndrome. serum Oxynatomodulin (Oxm) in PCOS were significantly lower in PCOS because OXM has been demonstrated to decrease food consumption and decrease body weight, also raising core temperature in comparison to a group that was fed the same amount of food, indicating that OXM enhances energy expenditure. These findings suggest important role of irisin and oxynatomodulin (oxm) in PCOS as a biomarker for PCOS and important for treatment hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia resulting from obesity and metabolic syndrome.
