Examining pet ownership in relation to depression and anxiety

Abstract (EN)
In this recent study, the relationship between depression/anxiety symptoms and pet ownership was investigated. The research sample consists of 87 (56.12%) pet owners (research group) and 68 (43.87%) participants (control group) who do not have a pet. The data were collected from Demographic Data Form, Beck Depression Scale, Beck Anxiety Scale, and Lexington Attachment to Pets Scale. According to results of the study, there was a statistically significant difference between the research group and the control group in terms of depression symptoms (p = 0.042), while there was no statistically significant difference between the research group and the control group in terms of anxiety symptoms (p = 0.079).
