ABSTRACT Master Thesis VECTOR CONTROL AND INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF THE SALIENCY AND THE DAMPER WINDING IN INVERTER-FED SYNCHRONOUS MOTORS Abuzer ÇALIŞKAN Firat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Electric and Electronics Engineering 2004, Page: 55 The dc motors have high dynamic response feature. In recent years, however, the desire for low-maintenance, high speed, and studying at adverse conditions, such as dirty air, explosive atmospheres, and inaccessible locations has resulted in an increasing trend in the direction of three-phase ac motors. Of these, the introduction of new magnetic materials such as rare earth elements has made the synchronous motor the system of choice for servo drives. In applications that is important particularly efficiency and power factor, the dc motor has been replaced by the synchronous motor. Based on these two drive systems, control methodologies are explained and excessive simulation results are discussed. All simulation programs are realized under Matlab/Simulink environment. In the first section, the dc motor drive systems are compared with the ac motor drive systems. The results form this part show that synchronous motor have to certainly be used at high power levels. In the second section, mathematical model of synchronous motor at d-q reference frame is derived for evaluating dynamic and steady state performances synchronous motor supplied from the network and a simulation program is developed. XIIIn the third section, the control methods for the synchronous motor are taken into consideration. A simulation program for the open loop speed control of the synchronous motor is first carried out. Then, dynamic and steady state performance of self-controlled synchronous motor are studied. For this purpose, a self-controlled synchronous motor supplied by six- stepped inverter with both current and voltage source is simulated. Finally, field oriented control of synchronous motor is examined in details. In the fourth section, it is focused on how to affect the dynamic and steady state performances of a self-controlled synchronous motor of the damper winding and saliency. The results are presented comparatively for the cases supplying from the inverter with both current and voltage source. In the final section, it is discussed in details a stator flux field orientation makes possible controlling the power factor of synchronous motor. A simulation program for the stator flux field orientation at unity power factor of synchronous motor supplied from six-stepped inverter with current source is developed.
