Exploring the relationship between early maladaptive schemas, beliefs in sexual myths, and sexual satisfaction in married individuals

This study examines the relationship between sexual satisfaction and early maladaptive schema domains and sexual myths in married individuals. The sample consisted of 155 participants aged between 18 and 60. Participants completed the Personal Information Form, Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form, Sexual Myths Scale, and New Sexual Satisfaction Scale. To test the study's hypotheses, independent samples t-test, Spearman correlation analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, linear regression, and hierarchical regression analysis were utilized. The findings indicated that the early maladaptive schema domains of "impaired autonomy" and "disconnection-rejection" were significantly negatively associated with sexual satisfaction. Additionally, linear regression analysis revealed that the "over-vigilance" schema domain significantly predicted sexual satisfaction. The effect of sexual myths on sexual satisfaction was found to be limited, suggesting that deeper personal and psychological factors play a more determining role in shaping individuals' sexual lives than sexual myths. The findings were discussed in light of the existing literature, recommendations for future research were provided, and the limitations of the current study were presented.
