Forgiveness of offense in marriage predicted by love styles, marital satisfaction and other variables

Abstract (EN)
Forgiveness is the reduction of an individual's anger and hostility towards the offender after a negative experience. Forgiveness in marriage means that when one of the partners exhibits a criminal behavior against the other, the victimized partner gives up the feelings of resentment, anger and resentment and replaces negative emotions with positive emotions. Having more positive emotions accompanied by love in marriage is also effective on satisfaction. Therefore, in the light of the variables that are important for marriage, this thesis examines the prediction of forgiving blame in marriage by love styles, marital satisfaction and other variables. The study is a quantitative research and was conducted using a causal design. The sample group of the study consists of 811 married individuals. 83.6% (n= 678) of the participants were female and 16.4% (n= 133) were male. Data were collected digitally through convenience sampling. Demographic information form, Marital Offense Forgiveness Scale, Triangular Love Scale and Marital Satisfaction Scale were used as data collection tools. When the results of the analysis of the study were examined, forgiveness of offense in marriage differed significantly according to gender, age group, age at marriage, marriage type, income level, number of children, and duration of marriage; it did not differ significantly according to the age difference with the spouse. When the results of the regression analysis were analyzed, it was concluded that forgiveness of offense by married individuals was predicted by intimacy and commitment sub-dimension of love styles, family satisfaction sub dimension of marital satisfaction, marital style, and income level. It was seen that the variables used in the study significantly explained 35% of forgiveness of offense in marriage. Keywords: Marriage; Offense-Specific Forgiveness; Marital Satisfaction; Love Styles
