Evaluation of nursing houses within the scope of universal design and accessibility

With the increase in the elderly population in the world and in Turkey, it has become more important to solve the problems related to housing, physical and mental health, social and social life participation of individuals in old age. This study aims to understand the old age period with all its dimensions, to discuss the design criteria by examining the nursing homes that meet the housing needs of the increasing elderly population, and to evaluate the bedrooms used as special spaces of the elderly within the scope of universal design and accessibility. Within the scope of the study, the concepts of old age, active ageing and ageing in place, the changes in the physical and psychological structure of the elderly, the regulations for nursing homes and nursing home plan typologies were examined by defining the purpose, hypothesis and limitations, and a comprehensive literature research was conducted on the period of old age and the accommodation of the elderly. In the study, examples of nursing homes providing services in the world and Turkey were discussed and nursing homes were analysed under the headings of site selection, environmental elements, entrance, circulation elements, bedrooms and common spaces as living spaces. Within the scope of universal design principles and standards related to accessibility, bedroom examples that will provide accessible, useful, comfortable, safe, safe, user satisfaction within the scope of universal design of the bedrooms where the elderly spend the most time in nursing homes within the scope of universal design, and suggestions were developed for the design of elderly bedrooms in nursing homes in accordance with universal design principles and accessible.
