ABSTRACT MS Thesis ULTRAVIOLET DESINFECTION OF EFFLUENT OF MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT Ayşe ÖZGÜVEN Firat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Environmental Engineering 2003, Page : 38 In this study, UV disinfection of effluents of municipal wastewater treatment plant has been investigated. Cylindrical UV reactor has been used and filtration stage has been added to the system for optimum efficiency. The system efficiencies have been evaluated according to solid matters, turbidity and hydraulic retention times. Total bacteria, total coliform, fecal coliform analyses have been performed during the 15 weeks study period. Ideal conditions have been determined to meet the standards in receiving waters. As a result it has been determined that filtration was necessary to meet the standards in the receiving waters for UV disinfection of effluents of municipal wastewater treatment plant. Perlite filter was effective for removal of solid matters and also for turbidity. Results showed that removal of microorganism, was over 99.5 % and meet the standards in receiving waters.
