Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to analyze each of the new art designs that will emerge during the examination of Exlibris interaction with various disciplines of design and art. According to reliable sources, the phrase of "Exlibris" originates from Latin and corresponds to "Bookplate" in English. It simply translates to "out of one's library or bookshelf." The Turkish spelling is as follows: "Ekslibris". In Germany, where this phrase originates from, it is spelled and used as "Bibliothekzeichen". Although these small-scaled works were born out of need, they have transformed into art pieces that have been created with aesthetic concerns but essentially, they can also be defined as a business card or a tag of a book. In the past, exlibris merely emerged because the noble families, churches, government officials, and scientists took and applied it as a precaution against theft, counterfeits, and loss to preserve their libraries or bookshelf. However, it became an art discipline that bears the cultural characteristics of the past and a cultural and historical bridge that allows artists and art lovers to communicate with each other in a meaningful way. According to recent researches, the oldest known employment of this practice was discovered on a light blue colored tile which was made in 1400 BCE (circa). Archaeological evidence claims that it belonged to the personal library of pharaoh Amenhotep III. (alias Pharaoh Amenhopsis III.). After the invention of the printing press, the usage of it became widespread. Numerous amateur and professional artists began to apply it with their unique techniques, especially in Germany and other countries. In Turkey, the art of exlibris became common after the year 2000. Today, there are many enthusiasts all over the world and there are even some who sell or purchase books only for the exlibris. Since 1470, it is predicted that there are over two million exlibris that exist and that there are approximately more than two thousand collectors. The general interest fore began to rise in the 19th century. When making an ex libris, one of the most significant principles is to produce authentic work. Exlibris ought to be unique to the person, family or dynasty that it is made for while representing their values. During the design phase, one ought to be precise and cautious about the personal characteristics, interests, and dynasty which they are part of. Key words: Exlibris, painting, design, graphic design, book, stamp, seal, print art
