Abstract (EN)
The study was carried out in three different vineyards determined in the 2006-2007 harvest period in Bozcaada, Çanakkale. The aim of this study is to find out the effect of the different maintenance and preservation processes practiced in vineyards of Bozcaada on the soil firmness. Directorate of Agriculture in Bozcaada (B1) and producer?s (Gocaylar) (B3) systems are high-wired and second producer?s system (B2) is gobble type. B1 and B3 vineyards are appropriate for mechanization equipments and wide order (3,4 m X 1,70 m). In B2 vineyard, manual milling machine has been used for weed control. The effects of different soil processing applications used in aforesaid vineyards on volume weight, porosity, humidity content and penetration resistance, pH and electrical conductivity (EC) of the soil. To this end, soil samples were taken in every 10 cm at a depth of 0-60 cm where the density of roots is high. Penetration resistance measurements were done in every cm in a soil profile of 0-80 cm. When results were analyzed, it was found that volume weight and porosity variations in all the soil samples were inversely proportional in these three vineyards. However, a linear variation was detected between the determined soil humidity and volume weight and when the soil humidity increased, volume weight decreased. While values for penetration resistance that do not affect the root growth in the higher layers of vineyards B1 and B2, it was observed that it rose over 2 MPa which is well-known in literature and causes drastic decrease in the yield in 45 cm and deeper in these vineyards. Nevertheless, the reason why penetration levels obtained in the lower layers were over the limit values shows that soil crust with shank horizontally is beneficial before the vineyards are set up. On the other hand, the soil samples taken from the vineyards in question were alkali in terms of pH and EC, but when compared to the literature, it was observed that the salinity level was not adequate enough to affect the growth of the plants.Key Words: Soil Tillage, Soil Physical Properties, Vineyard Culture
