Abstract (EN)

In this study, the physiological and biochemical response and tolerance of sage (Salvia officinalis), a medicinal and aromatic plant, to NaCl salt stress was investigated. Sage plants were grown under greenhouse conditions in pots at different salt doses (0 (control), 50, 100, 200, 400 and 600 mmol L-1 NaCl). Plants were harvested 6 weeks after salt application and some physiological and biochemical as well as plant and root Na+ and Cl- levels were determined. Based on the physiological parameters, it was observed that from a NaCl concentration of 200 mmoL-1 there was a statistical decrease in plant height, wet weight of the plant top and dry weight of the plant top. The MSI value increased from an L-1NaCl value of 100 mmol.Among the biochemical parameters, the levels of plant chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b decreased after a level of 200 mmol L-1 NaCl. The amount of proline, MDA and H2O2 increased gradually from a 100 mmol L-1-NaCl level. The antioxidant enzyme content of CAT and POD increased at concentrations of 100, 200, and 400 mmol L-1 NaCl and decreased at concentrations of 600 mmol L-1 NaCl. It was found that the Na+ and Cl- content of plants and roots increased with increasing amounts of NaCl.Considering the physiological and biochemical action of the sage plant (S. officinalis) against NaCl stress, this plant shows a tolerance to salt stress of up to 50, 100 and 200 mmol L-1 NaCl doses, but at very high salt levels of 400 and 600 mmol L-1NaCl concentrations. It was observed that the tolerance of the plant decreased. As a halophyte plant, it can be grown using the phytoremediation method in saline environments (soil or water) with NaCl levels up to 200 mmol L-1.
