Abstract (EN)

Various soil improvement methods provide solutions to the shear strength problems encountered in geotechnical engineering fields. The use of geosynthetic products draws attention for soil improvement applications. Geosynthetic reinforcements work in harmony with the soil and increase the shear strength of the soil, in addition to its advantages such as space saving, technical and architectural superiority. The increase in the use of geosynthetic products over time paves the way for global warming, climate change and environmental concerns due to the fact that their raw materials are petro-chemical synthetics. In this study, the effect of the use of hemp-based geotextiles and geogrids, which can be an alternative to synthetic-based geosynthetic products, on the shear strength of the soil was investigated. By using synthetic and hemp based geotextile and geogrid products, poorly graded type soils are equipped in different layouts (A1, A2, A3). Shear box tests were carried out under three different normal pressure values on reinforced soils of 80% and 60% density, and the shear strengths obtained were presented comparatively. As a result of the experiments, it was determined that the highest shear strength values were obtained from the soils equipped with hemp-based geotextile in 80% relative density A2 layout. When the data obtained were examined, it was determined that geotextiles and geogrids produced with hemp could be used as an alternative to geosynthetics in reinforced soil systems.
