PEDAGOGICALCONTENT KNOWLEDGE ABOUT FLOWERING PLANTS(Doctoral Thesis)Muhammet UŞAKGazi UniversityInstitute of Educational SciencesJune, 2005The purpose of this study is to find out prospective elementary scienceteachers? subject matter knowledge of flowering plant and pedagogical contentknowledge of flowering plant.This study was realized by one of qualitative methods, which is case study.Four elementary prospective science teachers participated in the study.Data were collected between November 2004 and April 2005. Videotapedlessons, concept maps, lesson plans, word association tasks, written document. andinterviews were used to find out pedagogical content knowledge of prospectiveelementary science teachers.Video taped lessons transcriptions were analyzed by N.Nivo software.vAccording to findings of the study prospective elementary science teachershave misconceptions about flowering plant.Also they have problems about questions which require visual representationof concepts.There is no relationship between subject matter knowledge and pedagogicalcontent knowledge of prospective elementary science teachers.As a result, components of pedagogical content knowledge of elementaryprospective science teachers such as information about student, information aboutcurriculum, pedagogical knowledge and assessment knowledge have been differentaccording to each participant.Keywords: Pedagogical content knowledge, Subject matter knowledge,Prospective Elementary Science Teacher, Flowering Plants
