Abstract (EN)

eTwinning is accepted as a successful innovation empowered by European information and communications technology contributing to the modernization of education and training. It is a sustainable and widespread education network that offers its members opportunities to communicate, collaborate on projects and participate in professional development activities. Participation in eTwinning projects promotes competences which are essential for professional development, personal fulfillment and also this kind of active participation has a significant impact on the teaching and learning processes. The aim of this research is to reveal the effects of an eTwinning project in its application process in Science lesson, the difficulties encountered during the project, the students' products emerging as a result of the project, and its impact on the development of students' digital and other skills. For this purpose, a project attempt has been made using the eTwinning platform both to strengthen the teaching of the researcher's course and to improve students' 21st century skills. This situation required the teacher to cooperate both at national and international level. What started as an individual teacher research has evolved into a collaborative action research process. However, although decisions were taken in the action plan by acting together with the founding partners of the project, the practices and focal points of each teacher in their own classrooms differed. For instance, the learning outcomes of the project for the students could be outside the scope of the science lesson because the project partners were teaching different fields. For this reason, although the related project was carried out through partnerships and in cooperation, the findings presented in this research were created depending on the data obtained by the researcher. The working group consists of twenty-two students who took part in the Astrolabe eTwinning project and three teachers who were advisors of these students. Students are studying at a public school in a district of Sakarya province. Teachers also work in the same school. The results of the research show the significant positive impact of eTwinning on both students' and teachers' digital abilities as well as their communication and collaboration skills. Astrolabe e-Twinning project increased the visibility of schools, motivated learning, encouraged the use of information technologies in education, improved language skills thanks to the environment it provides, and provided new teaching ways for interdisciplinary lessons, the participants improved the language and communication skills via online meetings, , supported self-learning, offered opportunities to meet and interact with experts, encouraged cooperation and teamwork, aroused students' interest and developed critical thinking skills. In this aspect in order to increase students' motivation and interest in the field of science, it is recommended to implement eTwinning projects which are integrated into science lessons.
