Abstract (EN)

FIBER OPTIC LIGHTING SYSTEMS(M.Sc. Thesis)Orkun AĞIROĞLUGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYSeptember 2006ABSTRACTRecently there have been many important and valuable developmentsin the communication industry. The huge increase in the sound, dataand visual communications has caused a parallel increase in thedemand for systems with wider capacity, higher speed and higherquality.Communication systems that use light to transfer data are immenselyincreased. There have recently many systems in which glass or plasticfiber cables were developed for light wave to be transmitted from asource to a target place.Fiber optic systems, are nowadays widely used in energy transmissioncontrol systems, medicine, industry and lighting. The basics of thesystem is, movement of light from one point to another point in fibercable with reflections.Fiber optic lighting systems are quite secure than other lightingsystems and have flexibility for realizing many different designs. Thissituation makes fiber optics an alternative for other lighting systems.Fiber optic lighting systems usage is increasing day-by-day in our life.In this thesis, these systems are examined in detail, and also loss, productivity and usage of the system are exposed by the experiments. In these experiments, it is seen that, it is possible to have productivitynearly as much as traditional lighting systems, by using fiber cables. Inaddition, by increasing fiber cable productivity, new usage areas can befound on the systems which use solar energy.Science Code : 905.1.111Key Words : Optic, PhotonicPage Number : 136Adviser : Yrd.Doç.Dr.Fadıl ÇEL KKOL
