Abstract (EN)

The research aims at determining in which situations animatronics used in movies fall into 'uncanny valley.' Robots started to be used mainly in industry in the first quarter of the 20th century. Advances in technology, artificial intelligence and robotics have started to be used in social areas in recent years, allowing more mobile androids to be produced. As Masahiro Mori indicated in his article 'Uncanny Valley', which was published in 1970, the uncanny valley is a state which the interacting person who first looks at the android with a feeling of sympathy, then with a sudden change of emotion looks at the android with antipathy, fear and disgust, falls into in the interaction of android-human. For this reason, the research aims to combine the findings of the research/development experts and designers who try to find out and solve the reasons for this feeling that causes the uncanny in people, and to investigate other claims on this subject. A sample animation has been produced at the end of this research, in which the studies of experts and designers on the etymology of the concept of uncanny and the concept/phenomenon of 'uncanny valley' based on this concept will be synthesized. This sample has made it possible to conceptually analyze the concept of uncanny valley which is discussed in theory.
