Abstract (EN)
Aim: To reveal the phenomenon of parental rejection in fluoride varnish application with experiences and decision processes, to develop a measurement tool to determine knowledge and attitudes about fluoride varnish application, and to examine the effectiveness of an intervention program to reduce parental rejection in fluoride varnish application. Materials and Methods: A multiple method research design was used in the study. Phenomenological research was conducted with 19 participants on the explanation of parental rejection in fluoride varnish application. Methodological research was conducted with 435 participants during the development process of the measurement tool. Interventional research was conducted with 405 participants from the intervention and control groups. In the interventional study, an intervention program to reduce parental rejection in fluoride varnish application, consisting of a presentation and a question-and-answer section, was applied to the intervention group. Results: It was observed that there was no significant difference between the mean scores of the Parental Rejection Scale in the Application of Fluoride Varnish in the intervention group and the control group before the intervention program applied to reduce rejection (p>0.05). After the interventionprogram, the mean score of the intervention group was significantly lower than the mean score of the control group (p<0.05). Before the intervention program, there was no significant difference between the mean scores of the Multidimensional Focus of Oral Health Control subscales (Internal, External-Dentist, Chance, Socialization Agents) of the intervention and control groups (p>0.05). 4 After the intervention program, it was determined that the Internal and External-Dentist subscale scores of the intervention group were higher than the control group. Chance and Socialization Agents subscale mean scores were lower in the intervention group than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that the intervention program had a positive effect on reducing parental rejection in fluoride varnish application.
