Abstract (EN)

In this study, the dye removal performance of hazelnut shell and activated carbon produced from hazelnut shell from aqueous solutions was investigated. The activated carbon produced in this study was obtained by chemical activation and pyrolysis of hazelnut shell with KOH. The physicochemical and morphological characterization of these adsorbents was evaluated with the help of analyzes such as FTIR, XRD and SEM. In order to demonstrate the adsorption efficiency of each adsorbent, Basic Blue 3 (BB3) and Basic Red (BR46) adsorption experiments were performed with each adsorbent. The effects of initial pH, adsorbent dose, initial dyestuff concentration and temperature on the adsorption of BB3 and BR46 dyes were investigated in experimental studies performed in batch system. The results of the experiments performed for each dye were evaluated by applying Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. It was observed that the data fit the Langmuir isotherm model better. The results obtained in the adsorption of BB3 and BR46 dyes with each adsorbent were applied to the pseudo-first-order and second-order kinetic models and the kinetic parameters were calculated. It was determined that the results fit the second-order kinetic model. The results of this study revealed that the activated carbon produced from hazelnut shell is highly effective in adsorption of BB3 and BR46 from aquatic environments. As a result, this activated carbon can be recommended as an effective adsorbent for the treatment of wastewater containing BB3 and BR46 dyes.
