Abstract photography and interaction with painting

Photography, since the invention of it, has been influenced by the art of painting; and the art of painting has found its way in accordance with the technical and contextual aspects of photography. In the beginning, the painters benefited from the photography during the portrayal of reality, but later, they left this task to the photography itself and began making abstract paintings which were demonstrated by their own subjective and individual unreal experiences . By the way, progressivist photographers have produced pictorial photographs to put the photography into the field of art ,and they have tried to sever the limiting connections with the reality and the thing and tried to put forward the form and aesthetic elements of images in the frame. While painting and photography were continuing to follow the other and to be influenced from each other, there has been ongoing discussions about photography itself. Important studies have been published, especially in the field of abstract, abstraction, reality, perception and perception phenomenology. European and American photographers, under the influence of periodic socio-cultural and political reasons, turned to photographic abstraction. Photographic abstraction has found a formal and a contextual place among these art movements: Impressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Vorticism, Dadaism, Constructivism and Surrealism. In this study, scanning method is used, defining characteristics of photography have been theorized / proved; abstract, abstraction, concepts of reality and perception are discussed in the context of painting and photography. In the process of photo and image abstraction, how they affect each other and the placement of abstraction in art movements have been attempted to identify/determinate. The historical development of photographic abstraction has been researched and important Turkish artists who make photographic abstraction in their art works are included with their sample images in this study.
