Abstract (EN)

With growth in the wireless communications industry, researchers have focused their attention on designing a low cost, high bandwidth, high gain antenna. Microstrip patch antennas are the most preferred antennas in wireless communication technologies because of their low manufacturing cost, their small dimensions and their light weight. However, when the microstrip patch antenna performances are compared with others, it has been seen that the performance needs to be improved and the efficiency should be increased. High performance products such as FSSs, high performance substrates and metamaterials are used to improve performance. Frequency Selective Surfaces are used together with attenuators to improve the performance of the antenna gain, direction, radiation pattern and bandwidth parameters. In recent years, FSSs have also been preferred to improve performance in antenna systems. FSS and partial reflective surfaces are used with printed antennas to improve antenna performance in narrow or wide band. In this thesis, FSS is presented to be used as a reflector to increase the performance of the microstrip dipole antenna in the working band. FR4, the most preferred material, was used in this study. (ɛr = 4.4, lost tangent = 0.0035). Firstly, the final integration-based CST program is used for all simulations, modeling and analysis. Thus, a broadband microstrip dipole antenna operating in the range of 4GHz to 10GHz is designed in the first stage. In the second stage, various FSSs were investigated to be used as reflectors to improve the performance of the designed dipole antenna. Finally, the Minkowski unit, which increases the gain of the microstrip dipole antenna by 3-4 dB and maintains almost the same return loss, was found to be as suitable FSS cell unit.
