Abstract (EN)

Aim: This study examines the impact of different strategic nap protocols on the anaerobic performance of soccer players, considering their chronotype. The research aims to expand understanding in this field by analyzing various nap durations and their effects on key performance metrics, contributing to the development of more effective recovery strategies. Material and Method: 16 male soccer players participated in three experimental sessions spaced 48 hours apart, following protocols of no nap (N0), a 25-minute nap (N25), and a 45-minute nap (N45). Participants first completed the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Profile of Mood States Questionnaire. Following each nap protocol, they underwent the Hooper Questionnaire, Pro Agility Test, and Repeated-Sprint Ability Test, with Rate of Perceived Exertion scores collected after each repetition. Results: Strategic nap protocols had varied effects on anaerobic performance parameters. The Pro Agility Test showed notable improvements with longer nap durations, while perceived exertion scores were significantly reduced. Although the Repeated-Sprint Ability Test results did not show significant changes, results of sleep quality and mood states highlighted the beneficial role of napping protocols in supporting both physiological and psychological processes. Conclusion: Strategic napping positively influenced agility performance and reduced perceived exertion levels in soccer players, indicating its short-term effectiveness for recovery. The findings underscore the potential of tailored nap protocols to enhance both physical and psychological readiness. This study may provide a foundation for future research involving individualized approaches and diverse participant groups, paving the way for optimizing sports performance through strategic recovery interventions.
