Abstract (EN)
This study aims to examine the belief system of the Çepni Alevîs living in the province of Gaziantep by considering its historical roots, theological perspectives, and ritual practices as a whole. Field research was conducted particularly in the Çepni villages of Yavuzeli and Nizip districts, providing significant data on how religious life is practiced and how individuals relate to faith. The participants' interpretations of fundamental belief elements such as God, the afterlife, destiny, angels, prophets, the holy book, Hazrat Ali, and the Ahl al-Bayt reflect not only theological perspectives but are also shaped in connection with cultural identity. These interpretations are noteworthy in showing how religious understanding is shaped within the oral tradition among the community. The study was carried out using a qualitative research method, and the data collected through semi-structured interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that Çepni Alevîsm preserves its unique structure based on oral transmission and that this distinctiveness is maintained through intergenerational narratives. It has been observed that the relationship between belief and worship is sustained as an integral part of daily life. Rituals such as the cem ceremony, supplication (niyaz), and prayer (dua) are functional not only in their religious dimensions but also in fostering social solidarity and a sense of communal unity. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the belief and worship practices of the Çepni Alevîs of Gaziantep establish a balance between traditional Alevî identity and local cultural elements.
