Abstract (EN)
With the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, studies are carried out for the use of renewable energy sources. In renewable energy sources, biogas is among the sources that can be obtained energy in all seasons of the year. In this study, in line with the data received from TUIK, the biogas potential of the districts of Gaziantep, the amount of CO2 emission reduction and the hourly methane production in Gaziantep province of 50 m3 were designed by using the cattle, ovine, and poultry data for the province of Gaziantep between 2017 and 2021. Within the scope of the thesis, the highest methane rate in cattle and poultry in Gaziantep province is Nizip district with 12 999.45 m3, and the highest methane rate in sheep and poultry is in Şehitkamil district with 824.60 m3 and 8744.64 m3, respectively. It has been calculated that 1575 MWh of electrical energy can be produced in the biogas facility with an hourly production of 50 m3 of methane, and 3216.5 tons of CO2 emissions can be reduced annually with the electrical energy obtained. Since the general installation cost of the facility is around $600,000, the annual operating cost is around $65,000, and the annual income from electricity generation is around $200,000, the payback period of the facility is calculated as approximately 4 years.
